Дорогие о Господе братия и сестры, поздравляю всех вас с мясопустной Неделей, которая также называется Неделя о Страшном суде. В сегодняшнем Евангельском чтении вы наверняка обратили внимание на суд Божий, о котором нам напоминает святая Церковь. Господь заранее все предсказал, и это из года в год повторяет Церковь в день воспоминания о Страшном Суде. Господь в деталях описал признаки наступления последних времен: оскудение веры и умножение беззаконий, стихийные бедствия, войны и страшные испытания, такие, что не спаслась бы от них никакая плоть, если бы Господь не сократил тех дней ради избранных Своих.
За что такие кары постигнут людей? Ведь Господь милостив и долготерпелив. Но люди будут в конце времен грешить так, что долготерпению Божию придет конец. Вспомните Всемирный потоп. Всю землю залил Господь водой, и только несколько праведников спаслись. Вспомните историю цивилизаций и культур. Сколько их погибло, когда народы перестали приносить духовный плод? Великая Византия погибла в один день. И мы каждый год слушаем эти слова — и не слышим. О сроках и приметах гадаем, а сделать то, что подсказывает нам Господь, все медлим, оставляем на потом. А будет ли для нас это потом? Успеем ли хотя бы раз в жизни совершить повеленное?
В том, что сказал Господь, какая простота, какая ясность! Вспомните сегодняшнее евангельское чтение: … алкал Я, и вы дали мне есть; жаждал, и вы напоили Меня; был странником, и вы приняли Меня; был наг, и вы одели Меня; был болен, и вы посетили Меня; в темнице был, и вы пришли ко Мне (Мф. 25, 35-36). И люди, представшие на Суд, с удивлением скажут: Господи, да не было такого, мы ни разу не видели Тебя — как мы могли сделать все это Тебе? (ст. 37-39.) И ответит Господь: истинно, истинно говорю вам: так как вы сделали это одному из сих братьев Моих меньших, то сделали Мне (ст. 40).
Если бы мы до конца понимали смысл этих слов, то весь мир был бы иным. Как бы тогда можно было совершать что-либо недоброе по отношению к любому человеку, если Господь каждого назвал Своим младшим братом, Своей младшей сестрой? И везде, где мы бываем, нас окружают младшие братья и сестры Самого Христа. И значит, всегда и везде мы должны помнить об этом и поступать с ними, как заповедал Господь.
Вот о чем спросит нас Господь на последнем Своем Страшном Суде: голодного — накормил? Жаждущего — напоил? Больного — посетил? В темницу — сходил? И так важно хотя бы один раз выполнить это, чтобы с полным правом сказать: да, Господи. Кажется, совсем просто, и мы все откладываем и откладываем —успеем еще. Не успеем! Потому что до конца так и не поняли, о чем сегодня говорит нам Господь.
Почему Суд Страшный? Потому что, как говорится в церковных песнопениях, книги разгибаются, и дела всех людей становятся явными, и некуда укрыться. И больше всех спросится с христиан — ведь они члены Церкви Христовой, Тела Христова. Потому Церковь напоминает нам перед Великим постом о страшном и грозном конце мира, когда каждому из нас придется дать отчет о содеянном и несодеянном. И в трепете и страхе мы сегодня говорим: Господи, пощади нас на Страшном Суде Твоем, прости нас, хотя бы наши добрые намерения прими и научи нас творить добрые дела, о которых мы слышали сегодня слова Твои. И тогда легче будет поститься, легче молиться и быть добрым делателем.
Вот почему Святая Церковь тревожит нас этим воспоминанием о будущем и еще и еще раз призывает к молитве: Господи, с левой стороны — ошуюю Тебя не поставь нас, сподоби встать справа — одесную Тебя вместе со всеми праведниками, которые оставили нам пример исполнения заповедей Твоих. Аминь.

Meat-fare Sunday which also named as Last Judgement Sunday
In today’s Gospel reading, you probably noticed the judgment of God, which the Holy Church reminds us of. The Lord predicted everything in advance, and the Church repeats this year after year on the day of remembrance of the Last Judgment. The Lord described in detail the signs of the coming of the last times: the depletion of faith and the increase of lawlessness, natural disasters, wars and terrible trials, such that no flesh would be saved from them if the Lord had not shortened those days for the sake of His chosen ones. Why will such punishments befall people? After all, the Lord is merciful and long-suffering. But people will sin so much at the end of time that God’s long-suffering will come to an end. Remember the Great Flood. The Lord flooded the entire earth with water, and only a few righteous people were saved. Remember the history of civilizations and cultures. How many of them perished when the nations stopped bearing spiritual fruit? The Great Byzantium perished in one day. And we listen to these words every year – and do not hear. We guess about the dates and signs, but we hesitate to do what the Lord tells us, we leave it for later. But will it be for us later? Will we have time to do what was commanded at least once in our lives? In what the Lord said, what simplicity, what clarity! Remember today’s Gospel reading: … I was an hungred, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me (Matt. 25:35-36). And the people who stand before the Judgment will say in amazement: Lord, no, this has never happened, we have never seen You – how could we do all this to You? (vv. 37-39.) And the Lord will answer: Verily, verily, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me (v. 40). If we fully understood the meaning of these words, the whole world would be different. How could we then do anything unkind to any person, if the Lord called everyone His younger brother, His younger sister? And wherever we are, we are surrounded by the younger brothers and sisters of Christ Himself. And this means that we must always and everywhere remember this and treat them as the Lord commanded. This is what the Lord will ask us at His last, Dread Judgment: did you feed the hungry? Did you give drink to the thirsty? Did you visit a sick person? Did you go to prison? And it is so important to do this at least once, to be able to say with full right: yes, Lord. It seems so simple, and we keep putting it off and putting it off – we will have time. We will not have time! Because we still have not fully understood what the Lord is telling us today. Why the Last Judgment? Because, as they say in church hymns, the books are unbent, and the deeds of all people become clear, and there is nowhere to hide. And most of all will be asked of Christians – after all, they are members of the Church of Christ, the Body of Christ. That is why the Church reminds us before Lent of the terrible and formidable end of the world, when each of us will have to give an account of what we have done and have not done. And in trembling and fear we say today: Lord, spare us at Your Last Judgment, forgive us, at least accept our good intentions and teach us to do good deeds, about which we heard Your words today. And then it will be easier to fast, easier to pray and to be a good doer. That is why the Holy Church disturbs us with this memory of the future and again and again calls us to prayer: Lord, do not place us on Your left side – on Your left hand, grant us to stand on Your right – at Your right hand together with all the righteous who left us an example of fulfilling Your commandments. Amen.
